To the left is the Pelican right after
a drop
from the mother ship. Bob said that the landing gear had been
lengthened
several times to accommodate the models as they got larger.
Below, you can see the attach point for the mother ship at the back of the head, which just trails in the slipstream after the launch. Click on the picture for an expanded view of the device. You can also see the amount of elevator included in the horizontal surface. |

Here are a series of pictures showing the overall shape of the Pelican and the tip feather arrangement. The lead feather is at -27 degrees to the wing's incidence, the next one at - 19 degrees, then -15 degrees and the finally the remaining feathers are reduced by about 2-5 degrees per feather until the aft one which is set at zero. You can see the amount of crank in the leading edge (not easy for building). |

| In the shot above, you can see the
"feet" added
to the lower body to increase directional stability since the head/beak
combination wasn't quite enough.
You can also see that the first three feathers are the ones making up the aileron. They are made of 1/16 balsa and attached with quick set glue so they are easy to repair in the field if damaged on landing. |
